Aims of the conference: To bring to the attention of the public the latest trends in the development of information technologies and knowledge economy in the countries of the Baltic region. To give an answer to the question of the digital age how knowledge economy and the latest technologies can contribute to a closer co-operation of the countries of the Baltic region and facilitate the disintegration of the social, political and economic barriers. To initiate the memorandum on the policies of the countries of the Baltic region concerning joint actions in the development of information society and knowledge economy. The Memorandum will include the initiatives of eEurope + Nordic eDimension.

Aims of the conference: To encourage Lithuanian authorities to create new jobs supported by information technologies, liberalise the market for telecommunications and increase the number of information specialists. To enhance the understanding of the advantages of new technologies and knowledge economy, to attract investments in joint projects in the Baltic region. To show export possibilities for Lithuanian enterprises of ITT and new technologies. To present investment projects of ITT enterprises of the Baltic States that would like to attract financial and strategic investors.

Invitations to participate at the Conference on Information Society 2001 will be extended to the Presidents or Prime Ministers of the States of the Baltic Sea Region, CEOs and specialists of ITT companies and companies of new technologies, representatives of e-business, e-banking and international organisations, political figures, scientists and investors.
