Presentation transcript:

Do Now: Plot the following coordinates in a coordinate plane: HW: Page ,68,69,70

Definition A relation is any set of ordered pairs. The set of the first coordinates is the domain of the relation and the set of second coordinates is the range.

Mapping Diagram DRDR

Definition A function is a relation in which different ordered pairs have different first coordinates.

Mapping Diagram DRDR

Definition A function is one-to one if no two elements of the domain have the same image.

One-to-One DRDR

If a function is one to one it has an inverse. On can use the vertical line test to disprove the a representation is a function. On can use the __________ test to disprove the a representation has an inverse.

Fin two ways to restrict the domain so that the function is one-to-one.
