Presentation transcript:

How Barbie came to life Invented by Ruth Handler in Barbie was named after Ruth’s daughter and Ken after her son.

Purpose of Barbie  The original purpose for the Barbie doll was to be a child’s play toy. But after it came out little girls started looking up to the model figure and wanted to be just like her.

Role Model Material? Known to cause girls self esteem problems, body issues, diseases, and body image obsession.

Self esteem  Some little girls look up to Barbie and wish to be like her, they want to look like her and feel “ugly” if they don’t.

Body issues  Barbie’s body is impossible to get and many girls end up having personal body issues because of that…

When someone wants Barbie’s body they will go to extreme levels, and in the end they may regret it.

Diseases  Some girls end up developing eating disorders trying to get skinny

Obsessions  Can become obsessed with something they don’t like about themselves or wish to change about themselves

Extreme levels  Many go under the knife to become the real life Barbie

Too far……

Before and after Valeria Lukyanova transformed herself into a living doll Heidi Montag from The Hills underwent 10 plastic surgeries in one day for the Barbie image

Sarah Burge  Mother of 2 girls that considers herself the “Barbie Mom”  Was on Anderson Cooper and got kicked off for her outrageous interview  m/watch?v=psigRG_JJ wA m/watch?v=psigRG_JJ wA

Mom material?  Sarah got her teen daughter to get Botox done so she doesn’t sweat and get nasty  Taught her 7 year old to pole dance and bought her a Botox and boob job voucher for when she turns 18

Other choices...  No need for girls to look up to Barbie  Other dolls with a positive outlook  Been proven to increase the self esteem by 36%

Emme Doll  Designed after the plus sized model from England Emme  Aims for a healthy body and promotes body image  Self esteem is higher with girls who play with her

Lottie Doll  Face and body of an actual little girl  Wardrobe that a real little girl would wear

The End Any Questions???
