DO YOU MAKE AN EFFORT TO LEARN SOMETHING THAT IS OUTSIDE OF YOUR „COMFORT ZONE”? If you answered "NO" to any of the questions, it may indicate an area where you need to improve the state of your intellectual wellness INTELLECTUAL WELLNESS

Dr MargiAnne Isaia, MD MPH INTELLECTUAL WELLNESS Includes The degree to which one engages one’s mind in creative and stimulating activities, as well as the use of resources to expand one’s knowledge; The acquisition, development, application, and articulation of critical thinking; One’s commitment to lifelong learning and the effort to share knowledge with others; The focusing of one’s skills and abilities on achieving a more satisfying life; The perception of being energized by an optimal amount of intellectually stimulating activity (mental challenges and critical reasoning, both of which require concentration);

Dr MargiAnne Isaia, MD MPH INTELLECTUAL WELLNESS Includes Continual personal growth and education by attending cultural events and seeking opportunities to gain and share knowledge; Overall lifestyle that fostered learning, creative and stimulating activities, as well as the use of available resources to expand, improve, and share knowledge and skills; Developing talents and abilities, learning how to learn, and developing higher order thinking skills; Application of knowledge in a creative and critical fashion for the betterment of society.

Dr MargiAnne Isaia, MD MPH INTELLECTUAL WELLNESS Lifelong learning is the "lifelong, voluntary, and self-motivated" pursuit of knowledge for either personal or professional reasons. It not only enhances social inclusion, active citizenship and personal development, but also competitiveness and employability. Learning is not confined to childhood or the classroom, but takes place throughout life and in a range of situations. During the last fifty years, constant scientific and technological innovation and change has had a profound effect on learning needs and styles. Learning can no longer be divided into a place and time to acquire knowledge (school) and a place and time to apply the knowledge acquired (the workplace) Instead, learning can be seen as something that takes place on an on-going basis from our daily interactions with others and with the world around us.

Dr MargiAnne Isaia, MD MPH INTELLECTUAL WELLNESS Ways for developing Intellectual Wellness: Keeping an active mind through mental activity stimulation A demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning Lifelong Learning lifelong learning through formal education and informal life experiences Openness to new ideas Continuous openness to new ideas Thinking critically A capacity to question and think critically Maintaining a sense of creativity and curiosity.

Dr MargiAnne Isaia, MD MPH INTELLECTUAL WELLNESS Ways for developing Intellectual Wellness: Being motivated to master new skills and seeking out new challenges Challenging the mind with intellectual and creative pursuits Not being self-satisfied and unproductive Being focused on the achievement of a more satisfying existence A continuous sense of humor, creativity, and curiosity Reaching your own correct decisions, making up your own mind, in your own interest when there is a choice or a problem, this is a daily event.

Dr MargiAnne Isaia, MD MPH INTELLECTUAL WELLNESS Extraordinary vision Vision, Passion, Purpose, Creativity THE NINE KEY CONCEPTS: 1. Creativity is the ability to look at the ordinary and see the extraordinary; 2. Every act is a creative one; 3. Creativity is a matter of perspective; 4. There is always more than one right answer; 5. Reframe problems into opportunities; 6. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes; 7. Break the pattern; 8. Train your technique; 9. You’ve got to realy care. Dewitt Jones
