Choose Dashes and select one of the styles. Choose one of the Theme or Standard colors or choose More Outline Colors to select a color from the Colors dialog box.

Apply Arrowhead Arrowheads can be added to existing lines by using the Shape Outline button or the Format Shape dialog box (Line Style tab). –You can control whether to put an arrowhead on either end or on both ends of a line. –Adjust the length and angle of the arrow by dragging the sizing handle on the end of the arrow. No rotation handle is required to make lines angle on the slide.

Adjust Transparency and Rotate Right-click and choose Format Shape from the short-cut menu. –Click the Line Color option. –Move the Transparency slider to allow the background color to show through the arrow. –Click the 3-D Rotation option. –Scroll the X Rotation up so the appearance of the arrow changes.

Choose a Gradient Fill for Shapes Select a shape then from the Drawing Tools Format tab, in the Shape Styles group, click the Shape Fill button. –Choose Gradient at the bottom of the menu then More Gradients. –Click the Fill option at the left of the dialog box. –In the Fill options area, click Gradient Fill. –Click the Preset colors drop-down list box arrow, and choose one.

Apply a Picture Fill From the Drawing Tools Format tab, in the Shape Styles group, click the Shape Fill button and choose Picture. Select the appropriate picture file and click Insert. The shape is now filled with your picture.

Use Offsets to Stretch or Reposition a Picture Offset X settings move the picture horizontally left or right. Offset Y settings move the picture vertically up or down. Scale X shrinks/expands the picture horizontally left or right. Scale Y shrinks/expands the picture vertically up or down. Positive numbers move the picture edge toward the center of the shape Negative numbers move the picture edge away from the shape.

Adjust Picture Rotation From the Picture Tools Format tab, in the Arrange group, click the Rotate button and choose More Rotation options. –Under Size and rotate, change the Rotation box to as needed –Under Scale, check the Lock aspect ratio if it is not already checked. Change the Height as needed and change the Width to as needed. –Click Close.

Use Precise Size Dimensions From the Picture Tools Format tab, in the Size group, click the Dialog Box Launcher. –Under the Size and rotate heading, as the Height is decreased or increased, the Width changes to keep the aspect ratio and not distort the picture. –Under Position on Slide, the Horizontal Position setting controls where the picture is located on the slide.

Add Shadow and Reflection From the Picture Tools Format tab, in the Picture Styles group, click the Picture Effects button. –Choose Shadow and then select Shadow Options. –Under Presets, choose one of the shadow directions. –Under the Color heading, click the drop-down list box arrow and choose an appropriate color. –Change the Shadow setting options for Transparency, Size, Blur, Angle, and Distance for the type of effect you want. Lesson 8 Summary—1 Many PowerPoint objects—shapes, text placeholders, text boxes, and WordArt—can be enhanced with the addition of shape outline, shape fill, and shape effects. –Shape Outline options include solid lines, gradient lines, and dashed lines in any thickness (weight) or color you want. –Apply Shape Outline options by using the Shape Outline button or the Format Shape dialog box. The Arrow button draws a line with an arrowhead on its end. –You can add or remove an arrowhead from any drawn line by using the Shape Outline button and then selecting Arrows. –The Line Style tab of the Format Shape dialog box offers additional ways to format an arrow.

In addition, solid colors and gradients can have varying degrees of transparency. Remove an outline from an object by choosing the No Outline option from the Shape Outline button’s drop- down list. Remove the shape fill from an object by choosing the No Fill option from the Shape Fill button’s drop-down list. It is usually best to use the coordinating theme colors. –Additional colors are available by choosing More Colors from the corresponding drop down list from the button. –The Colors dialog box enables you to choose from a honeycomb of premixed colors on the Standard tab or to mix your own colors on the Custom tab.

Lesson 8 Summary—3 You have several options when using gradient fills—the blending of colors into each other—including the direction and transparency of the effect. PowerPoint includes several textures that you can use for fill effects. Any picture—a scanned photograph or other image— can be used to fill shape. –When using a picture, you have the choice of distorting the picture to fill the space or preserving its aspect ratio. Picture borders and picture effects can be modified through the Picture Tools Format tab or through the Format Picture dialog box.

Lesson 8 Summary—4 PowerPoint objects can be resized and rotated using precise dimensions for location and size. The Shadow and Reflection effects can be used to create a lighter transparent copy of the image either shadowed or reflected from the original shape. The Glow and Soft Edges effects can be used to smooth the edges of objects and apply a soft color around the shape. Bevel effects create the appearance of three- dimensional shape. The shape in 3-D can be rotated to increase the three- dimensional perspective.

Lesson 8 Summary—5 The grayscale version and the black-and-white version of a presentation can be adjusted for clearer printing on black-and-white printers. Adjusting the grayscale settings has no effect on the color version of the presentation.
