Office of Family Assistance OFA administers several federal grant programs which foster economically secure households and communities. The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program is designed to help low-income families achieve self-sufficiency.

Office of Family Assistance Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Caseload Data  Number of TANF Recipients by State and by County  Updated Quarterly Format  Raw data (Text File) Potential Uses  Researchers, policy makers, and State social services workers can map trends among TANF recipients  Overlay TANF recipients with the American Community Survey to see where there are gaps in TANF eligible recipients

Office of Community Services Office of Community Services (OCS) partners with states, communities and agencies to eliminate causes of poverty, increase self-sufficiency of individuals and families and revitalize communities. The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is a grant that provides funds to 50 States, D.C., 5 territories, and approximately 150 tribes to assist low-income households with home energy costs.  Focus on children and elderly who are especially vulnerable to negative health outcomes due to insufficient home heating and cooling.

Office of Community Services Data Household Reports:  States report on the number and income level of assisted households  Number and income level of households applying for LIHEAP assistance  Number of assisted households with at least one or more individuals who are elderly, disabled or a young child Community Action Agency Location Data Format: PDF, Word Potential Uses  Policy makers and researchers interested in exploring the intersection between energy assistance and health.  Combine with weather data & data from Community Health Centers and/or hospitals to analyze linkages between location, weather, access to utilities and health outcomes
