 Egypt is a hot country and so people wore lightweight clothes which kept them cool. We can see what they wore from the many paintings and sculptures they left behind.

These are the ordinary people. The wore simple linen dresses and men wore a piece of cloth tied around their waists.

 The River Nile gave the people all the food and drink that they needed. They grew crops in the fields along the river. They also made bread. Fruits such as grapes and melons were also eaten.  Ordinary people could not afford meat but they used their boats to fish in the deep waters of The Nile.

 Wealthy people could always afford the best of every kind of food. They ate roast lamb, goat and fowl.  They enjoyed many different types of bread and cakes.  They also drank wine and beer with their food.

 Children learned skills from their parents such as hunting, fishing and farming. They saw how clay bricks were made and used to build new homes.  The sons of rich people went to school and learned how to read and write. They did not use letters and words- they used picture signs called Hieroglyphs.

 Egyptian children played with toys; wooden animals and dolls.  They also had pets such as dogs, cats and small monkeys.  Music was very popular and girls loved to dance.
