S8 page 2 Hijacking 0647: The Tower at Sofia’s airport receives a request for an emergency landing from a Turkish airliner which advises that it has been overtaken by “dissidents.” The hijackers are threatening to blow up the aircraft if their demands for release of “political” prisoners in Turkey are not met. The plane’s captain explains that his plane left Frankfurt on its way to Istanbul and has at most fuel for another 1 hour and 45 minutes of flight.

S8 page 3 Hijacking — cont’d 0650: Airport officials ask advice for their response. In a phone call, Turkish officials advise the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry that they are reviewing options, but recommend that Bulgaria deny the aircraft permission to land.
