Presentation transcript:

TERMINAL LEARNING OBJECTIVE ACTION: Perform Instructor/Operator Duties CONDITION: Given COFT, a crew, and classroom instruction STANDARDS: Conduct a training session IAW the evaluation sheet with a minimum passing score of a “GO” on all tasks within 45 minutes

COFT SAFETY BRIEFING SAFETY: Tampering with equipment is prohibited and horseplay will not be tolerated CVC helmets must be worn in the Crew Station at all times No food, drinks, smoking or smokeless tobacco are allowed in the training area Use all required references during maintenance and training Do not walk on or move any cables, or touch any electrical connections

COFT SAFETY BRIEFING (Con’t) Know the location and function of the three emergency Shutdown Switches Know where the fire extinguishers are, how to use them, the location of the emergency exits and the Shelter Emergency Shutdown Switches Do not permit any activity in the COFT that is unsafe in the BFV

COFT I/O COURSE Risk Assessment Level: Moderate, due to potential for exposed high voltage cables Environmental Considerations: None Evaluation: Conduct a training session IAW the evaluation sheet with a minimum passing score of a “GO” on all tasks within 45 minutes

ENABLING LEARNING OBJECTIVE A ACTION: Prepare for a Training Session CONDITION: Given COFT, COFT IUH, and classroom instruction STANDARDS: Students must gather and analyze a crew’s record in order to properly conduct a training session

CREW CLASSIFICATION New Turbulent Sustainment

CREW CLASSIFICATION DEFINITIONS NEW - Newly formed crews in which the gunner, BC, or both have not previously qualified on BT VIII in their current positions are classified as New Crews. New crews should initially begin training in the Special Purpose matrix to learn the critical skills required in the direct fire engagement process. TURBULENT - Newly formed crews in which both the gunner and BC have previously qualified on BT VIII in their current positions as part of another crew are classified as turbulence crews. Turbulent crews should begin their training at the start of the Preliminary matrix in order for the gunner and BC to develop crew coordination skills. SUSTAINMENT - A crew that has previously qualified on BT VIII together is classified as a Sustainment crew. Sustainment crews should be allowed to continue training where they left off in the training matrices prior to departing for live-fire gunnery.

SITUATION MONITOR

SITUATION MONITOR INFORMATION Acquiring and classifying targets Range determination (accuracy) Rounds fired versus number of hits (excess ammo) TOW reticle lay errors Subtask errors Target destruction

PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS

PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS INFORMATION Target types and times (threat, ID, and exposures) Subtask errors Overall evaluation (T, P, U) Next Computer Recommended Exercise

SESSION SUMMARY

SESSION SUMMARY INFORMATION Average threat ID times Rounds fired versus number of hits (excess ammo) Subtask errors Overall exercise evaluation (T, P, U) Next Computer Recommended Exercise

CREW RECORDS

CREW RECORD INFORMATION Exercises are displayed in ascending order Subtask errors Overall exercise evaluation (T, P, U) Next Computer Recommended Exercise

INSTRUCTOR WRITTEN NOTES The instructor written notes are the most valuable part of preparing for a training session. They identify critical items that the computer cannot score, (ie. Fire Commands, Scanning Techniques etc.) Use the instructor notes in conjunction with all other screens

CREW PREBRIEF

PRE-BRIEF TOPICS Results from last session I/O assessment Session training objectives Questions

ENABLING LEARNING OBJECTIVE B ACTION: Conduct a Training Session CONDITION: Given a COFT, COFT IUH, and classroom instruction STANDARDS: Students conduct a training session IAW the evaluation sheet with a minimum passing score of a GO on all tasks within 45 minutes

BEFORE THE TRAINING SESSION  Conducts a commo check  selects “Pre-Fire Checks”  Selects exercise  Check exercise preview  Zero  sends the crew instructions  Verify crew acknowledges  unfreeze the exercise

DURING THE TRAINING SESSION CONDUCT OF FIRE 1 – Insure Cmdr identifies sectors 2 – Insure Gunner cycles ghost round 3 – Insture Gnr/Cmdr scans in low mag 4 – Insure Cmdr gives proper fire command 5 – Insure Gnr gives correct response term 6 – Insure correct ammo is selected 7 – Insure Gnr lazes properly (high mag) 8 – Insure Cmdr announces “driver up” 9 – Insure Cmdr announces “fire” 20- Insure Gnr announces “on the way” 11- Insure Cmdr announces “cease fire” 12- Insure Cmdr announces “driver back”

AFTER THE TRAINING SESSION Upon completion of each exercise, the instructor will provide the crew with a brief critique of their performance, using the Situation Monitor. Upon completion of the training exercise the I/O will print and save to disk the Situation Monitor and Performance Analysis. The I/O will also print and save to disk the Session Summary and Crew Record at the end of the training session. The last I/O for the platoon will print and save to disk the Unit Summary for the platoon. He will also forward a hard copy to the Company Master Gunner. The last I/O for the companies training session will print and save to disk the Unit Summary for the company. This information will be forwarded to the Company Master Gunner.
