 Students will be able to identify the atomic number and the atomic mass, given a periodic table.  Students will be able to use the atomic number and mass to determine the number of protons, neutrons and electrons in a given atom or ion.  Students will be able to differentiate between cations and anions  Students will be able to differentiate the different types of matter as describe in class,.  Students will be able to describe the differences between homogeneous and heterogeneous matter.  Students will be able to describe the solute and the solvent in a solution.   Students will be able to describe the dispersed and continuous phase of a colloid.

 Students will be able to identify the differences between colloid, suspension, and solution.  Students will be able to describe the differences between an acid and a base  Students will be able to apply the pH scale to determine whether a solution is an acid or a base.  Students should be able to list and describe what physical properties are  Students should be able to list and describe what chemical properties are.  Students should be able to describe and identify what isotopes are  Students should be able to list and describe the characteristics of the families of the periodic table.  Students should be able to describe how the periodic table is periodic.
