Author’s Purpose WHY did the author write a particular essay, passage, novel, etc.? How does the author use literary elements to create an overall message or feeling? How does the language of a text tell you how to FEEL, THINK, BELIEVE, or what to DO?

How do YOU work through difficult vocabulary in a text? In your groups, TALK about how you work through difficult words in a text; how do you determine their meanings?! Choose the BEST techniques from each group member and create a STRATEGY for defining words in context Choose a group member to share your strategy with the class Thinking Question: How do we maneuver through a difficult text?!
