How To Read a Magazine Article Like A 9th Grader First, activate your prior knowledge. Look at the title and think about the topic. For this article, write down a few questions you have. Think about what you know on the subject already.

Second, preview the article Second, preview the article. Look for HEADINGS, SUBHEADINGS, PICTURES, CAPTIONS, SIDEBARS, and any other information other than the paragraphs of the article. Describe the headings, pictures and captions you see in this article.

Third, make a PREDICTION based on the information you just read. After these steps, NOW you can READ the article.
