NERA/REAKT Workshop Zürich March 19-20, 2013 ______________________________________________________________________________ NA5D5.1 Inventory of operational near-fault observatory networks and data NA5D5.2 Near fault observation systems networking and communication protocols: 2do! NA5D5.3 Near fault observatory collaboration, integration and implementation Objectives NERA-NA5 will create a pan-European network of near-fault observatories capable of sustaining future research of faulting and fault systems and the hazards they generate. 1Collaborate in sharing of technological and scientific experience and know- how between the observatories; 2Achieve synergies in operations and monitoring; 3Establish and maintain common quality standards; 4Generate a common archive of near-fault observational data using shared protocols, standards and quality control.

NERA/REAKT Workshop Zürich March 19-20, 2013 ______________________________________________________________________________ Workshop WISHES ①Learn how the other groups work on similar tasks. ①Discuss the possibility to upgrade the NEAR FAULT OBSERVATORIES to EU infrastructures. HOW? I don’t know!

HOW? Or may be… We can advise to the whole scientific community (EPOS?) about the importance of RIs characterised by the availability of multi-sensors networks generating high-resolution data.

HOW? Or may be… We can advise to the whole scientific community (EPOS?) about the importance of RIs characterised by the availability of multi-sensors networks generating high-resolution data. WHY? Because we believe NFOs are the vehicles to make possible state of the art fundamental research or to run/test new investigation techniques.

NERA/REAKT Workshop Zürich March 19-20, 2013 ______________________________________________________________________________ At the same time, please, correct me if I am wrong, the majority of the Institutions managing our Ris, are already within EPOS. Why EPOS? The goal of EPOS is to promote and make possible innovative approaches for a better understanding of the physical processes controlling earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, unrest episodes and tsunamis as well as those driving tectonics and Earth surface dynamics. Integration of the existing national and trans-national RIs will increase access and use of the multidisciplinary data recorded...

NERA/REAKT Workshop Zürich March 19-20, 2013 ______________________________________________________________________________ How can we advise EPOS about the importance of RIs? May be by simply contacting the responsible people for Seismology (GROUP 1) and ask them to include us in the list of EU-Ris or as a EU- WP dealing with NFOs. This will allow us
