MUMMIES Unit 4: Ancient Egypt

Objective We will learn about the Egyptian mummification process.

CONNECT Why did Egyptians believe that preserving the bodies of the dead was necessary for the afterlife?

VOCABULARY mummification-process to preserve the body of the dead. natron-preservative that dries up the liquids and fats that cause the body to decay. Ka-a person’s spirit death mask-symbolized the elevation of the body to a higher plane of existence.

“Recipe for a Mummy!” With your group, make a recipe for a mummy explaining what you would need and what you would have to do to make a mummy. Your group will also need a detailed and labeled visual to accompany the instructions you provide.
