Habitat for Humanity affiliates, the grass roots organizations that make it all happen, raise money locally and work with local volunteers to build simple, decent homes for qualified buyers at no interest and no profit. Mortgage payments go back into the building fund. Since 1994, The U.S. Department of Energys Building America program has been working with HFHI and local Habitat affiliates who want to build more energy efficient homes. Technical assistance helps affiliates make smarter choices and spend limited resources more wisely. But the real winners are the home owners who reap year after year in utility savings – often with improved durability, indoor air quality, and comfort. RESNET is a professional organization of home energy raters and service providers that work with builders, like Habitat affiliates, throughout the country to plan and certify energy efficient construction. RESNET members produce Home Energy Ratings, help builders reach energy efficiency goals (like Energy Star), and work with the project managers to ensue that as built matches as specified. Building America is proud to introduce a partnership between RESNETs network of professionals and with Habitats network of affiliates. Working together, RESNET volunteers and Habitat can deliver homes that use at least 15% less energy and provide a healthy, comfortable environment that will last for generations. Project Examples Habitat is building energy-efficient, healthy and sustainable houses in communities around the world. More than a decade of Energy Star building. Since 1995 Habitat for Humanity International has partnered with the Florida Solar Energy Center and the Department of Energys Building America program to produce thousands of houses that are energy-efficient, durable and have healthy indoor air quality. Without funding, support and professional guidance from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, much of this work would not have been possible. Building America works on numerous projects with local Habitat affiliates nationwide to improve the energy efficiency, comfort, durability and indoor air quality of new housing built with Habitat homeowners. One such recent project involving the Lakeland Habitat for Humanity affiliate of Florida reveals significant utility savings for homeowners living in high performance housing. Other research projects are below.such recent project Building Americas partnership newsletter: Summer 2007 NewsletterSummer 2007 Newsletter Building Americas multi-year history with Habitat for Humanity:
