Presentation transcript:

 Have an approved mix design before paving.  The department has eliminated the use of PG -22 Asphaltic Material and replaced it with PG -28.  Tack Coat application rate change:  0.05 gallons per square yard between layers of new HMA Pavement.  0.07 gallons per square yard placed on existing asphalt, milled surfaces and concrete pavement.  Density reporting for SMA and Asphaltic Base are recorded on DOT forms and submitted to the project leader and not entered in the MRS 2

 If you have a failing QC test the engineer should order a Non-Random QC on the next truck.  If your QC/QV random test falls in the last half of the load, take your test after 1 cy is unloaded to prevent possible nonconforming material being incorporated into the project. 3

 Will likely be included in Dec 2015 LET projects.  A few pilot projects will be done this construction season. 4

 Include random number calculations & documentation in material finals.  If you know you’re going to have only a partial lot size determine the random number based on the quantity in that specific partial lot. 5

 Requirements for acceptance: 1)Mill test reports and shipping invoice representing all steel types, grades, bar sizes, and heat numbers. 2)A copy of the resin manufacturer’s certification of coating materials. 3)The epoxy applicator’s certification attesting to compliance with all of the details of the specification. 4)Ensure that the epoxy used is on the Wis.DOT approved list. 6

 Heat number should be recorded by project staff and placed in the project records  Certificate of Compliance by manufacturer/supplier 1) State Project I.D., Highway Number, Project Description, and County 2) Name or brand of manufacturer 3) Product identification (AASTHO M180 Class A) 4) Signed Buy America 7

 Project Criteria (FDM ) 1)HMA paved travel lanes 2)More than 30,000 tons Base Aggregate Dense 1¼ 3)Subgrade improvement or QMP Subgrade 8

 Contractor Responsibility 1) QMP plan 2) Proctor Test (AASHTO T-180 Method D) 3) Nuclear Density and Moisture Testing (1500 ton lots) 4) Monitor gradation testing 9

 DOT Responsibility 1) Verification testing 30% 2) RAP or RCA more than 20% there are other methods to obtain target density. 3) Contact the Materials Section as soon a source is determined. 10

 40,000 SY  Lots 3,000 SY  Target density by control strip 11
