She is very scare of her future, her family and the men she loves. 3. Madam Rogers. A neighbor who lost her son to the militia. 4. The militia. The new government taking power and doing tyranny.

Setting The story take place in Haiti. A small, poor country next to the Dominican Republic, in the Caribbean. That is now taken over by the militia in Port-eu-prince. The story take place in Haiti. Plot Leaving behind everything that he had, friends, family and his one true love. The boy fled on a small boat searching for a new hope and a new life. Despite being far away in the sea with more people, the boy still writes to the girl, who lives back in Haiti. Trying to survive, she experience the tyranny of the militia, and what they have done to the poor people of her country. Fleeing to the countryside called Ville Rose, there she has some peace, and write to the boy under a banyan tree. Leaving behind everything that he had, friends, family and his one true love. Opinion I think that Children of the sea is a great story. I really enjoyed reading this book because is a love story. Both of the main characters are trying to keep the love burning inside of them and they hope to see each other in the future. What happened in the story could happen in real life. The idea of not having someone to love you, or having your love apart from you really hurt. The message that the author is trying to send is base on her life in Haiti and how her country was falling apart, and maybe she even left someone she loved.
