Service Objective: Enable youth to participate more fully in Canadian society by promoting skills development to achieve self-sufficiency Youth Services Promoting the healthy growth and development of youth Total Clients served by Youth Services in 2013: 1907

Youth Welcoming Centre Newcomer and settled youth participate in fun and educational activities together 359 Newcomer Youth accessed newcomer focused programs including ‘Welcome to Canada’ sessions, conversation starters, and Empowered Girls Clubs.

Education Support: Humber Homework Humber Homework provides individual and group tutoring to high school students at Humber College Newcomer and established youth are picked up from 3 different schools: o North Albion Collegiate o West Humber Collegiate o Father Henry Carr Catholic School Focus is on 3 subjects; Math, English and Science 225 youth participated in homework clubs with 14 tutors. 85% agreed this helped improve their grades 85% expressed a desire to pursue post- secondary education

Employment & Career Support Youth explore career options and develop employment skills Helps youth broaden their vision of their future. Includes job search workshops, resume/ interview preparation, career assessment, mentorship, girls technology & trades awareness, and entrepreneurship awareness.

Empowered Girls Program Girls increase their social support networks They experience increased self esteem and self-confidence Girls increase their involvement in the community Newcomer girls feel a greater sense of belonging Girls are exposed to green trades and technology Over 90 female youth benefited from this program Provides space for girls only conversations and activities. It aims to develop girls’ leadership skills, while promoting wellness and safety.

Health & Wellness The Empowered Girls Program combines physical fitness, nutrition and health and wellness 84% indicated improvement in levels of physical activity 92% reported learning to eat healthier foods

Leadership & Volunteer Development Develops youth’s leadership skills & provides volunteering opportunities Exposes youth to career interests, and job shadowing I.e. Lakeshore Lodge Seniors Home- Engaged seniors while being exposed to careers in social work, nursing, and personal support workers Prepares youth to lead civic engagement initiatives and give back to their community. 125 youth participated in these programs 100% became leaders in training and reported feeling confident taking on a leadership role
