Parts of the tooth Crown Root Dental Fact: did you know that the enamel on your teeth is the hardest substance in your body? Enamel Dentin Pulp Cementum

Types of teeth Incisors = the sharpest teeth. Canine teeth = meant for grasping and tearing food. Premolars = meant for crushing food. Molars = their job is to chew and grind the food into smaller pieces.

What causes cavities? Bacteria living organisms are on your teeth, gums, lips and tongue. some bacteria can be harmful, most are not and some are even helpful. attach to the enamel. If they're not removed, they multiply and grow. Proteins that are present in your saliva (spit) also mix in and the bacteria colony. plaque is what causes cavities.

How does decay happen? Enamel contains durable mineral salts, like calcium. Acid causes them to break down. plaque produces acid as it eats up sugar. The acid dissolves the enamel and holes appear. This is a cavity. It's important to see your dentist before a cavity forms so that the plaque you can't reach with your toothbrush or floss can be removed.

5 steps to a healthy smile DON’T WAIT UNTIL IT IS TOO LATE FLOSS IS THE BOSS EAT AND DRINK BUT BE SURE TO THINK. BE GOOD TO THOSE GUMS. IT TAKES A WHILE TO BRUSH THAT SMILE!

Experiments ACID ATTACKS This experiment simulates an acid attack on bones(bones are rich with calcium, just like your teeth). FLOSS IS THE BOSS What you'll need: a rubber glove, a jar of peanut butter and something to spread it with, a container of dental floss, a toothbrush and some toothpaste. What will happen: a toothbrush simply can't reach all the places between your teeth. Dental floss can do a much better job of removing food between your teeth.
