The planning for this telescope started in Still not in ____ It will be a large infrared ____ Telescope with 6.5 meter primary mirror. It shall be launched into _____ in Its current price cap is at around $8.8 BILLION. The launch itself is estimated to take about $1.5 BILLION. The primary mirror is made out of beryllium. It will have 18 segments. The duration of its “mission” will be 5 to 10 years. PLANNING/FUNDING

The End of the Dark Ages: First Light and Reionization Assembly of Galaxies The Birth of Stars and Protoplanetary Systems Planetary Systems and the Origins of Life GOALS:

January 24, 2014 the JW_T was subjected to tests to examine the telescope’s power, communications and pointing control systems. The Telescope has passed most of the necessary tests within deadline. LATEST RESULTS

Near-Infrared Camera- To detect the earliest stars and galaxies ( λ microns) Near-Infrared Spectrograph-To disperse light from an object into a spectrum (temp. mass, and chem. comp.) Mid-Infrared Instrument- Camera and Spectrograph to view light in mid- infrared region of electromagnetic spectrum Fine Guidance Sensor/Near InfraRed Imager and Slitless Spectrograph- Investigate the first light, exoplanet detection and characterization and exoplanet transit spectroscopy IMPORTANT INSTRUMENTS:
