Outcomes and Assessment Standards Literary Appreciation Outcome 1 The learner will: Understand, analyse and evaluate in depth complex verse and/or prose texts in Latin and translated into English by: 1.1 Identifying and explaining main ideas and themes 1.2.Identifying and explaining how literary techniques are used to convey meaning 1.3. Communicating an appropriate critical response 1.4 Identifying and explaining aspects of Roman culture

Outcomes and Assessment Standards Translating Outcome 1 The learner will: Translate complex unseen Latin verse and prose texts into English by: 1.1 Applying advanced knowledge and understanding of vocabulary, accidence and syntax 1.2 Conveying meaning, using appropriate language, style and structure

Outcomes and Assessment Standards Project Outcome 1 The learner will: Plan, research and present the findings of a project based on an aspect of Latin literature, language or the Roman world by: 1.1 Identifying an appropriate topic and setting out a plan for research 1.2 Translating and commenting on detailed texts in Latin 1.3 Analysing and evaluating relevant information from sources in translation and other research 1.4 Drawing conclusions and presenting findings on the topic

Workshop 1 Unit Assessment Using the materials provided, in small groups of 2- 3, discuss:  Identify subject-specific topics for discussion Workshop Aims  To understand the assessment and evidence requirements of Unit Assessment  To consider a range of ways of generating evidence for the Unit Assessment Support provided Using the materials provided, in small groups of 2-3, discuss each unit in turn, specifically:  The suitability and accessibility of the task  The Judging Evidence table  How you might use/adapt this assessment

Unit Assessment Support Package 2 Combined approach by theme Combines the Literary Appreciation and Translating units Covers all outcomes and assessment standards for each of these two units (The Project unit is not included in this assessment support package as it is package 1.)

Unit Assessment Support Package 2 cont’d  Task 1 – Choose 3 writers and undertake a literary appreciation task (with access to prescribed texts)  Task 2 - Undertake a translation of a verse (Ovid) and a prose text (Caesar) connected to the themes of letter writing and/or love (with access to a word list but not a dictionary)
