Bug-scope Lesson of Insects By: Mary Therese Laird March 6, 2007 Educ 140

Actaeon Beatle This is the picture I drew of a beetle before I knew all the information about beetles. I knew that beetles were round and had horns from seeing them in real life. Acteon Beatle Information Of all the beetles of the South American tropics, the Actaeon, is one of the largest and most magnificent in appearance. Its body is very broad often measuring to be measuring 70mm across. The armor of the adult male beetle is very smooth to the touch and it is thick and solid and they also have thick curved horns. Male beetles use their horns in big battles with each other over females or territory. Beetles of this size have few predators and are successful simply because they are very large. Overview Using bugscope is a very good way to teach a science classroom to children of all ages. When using bugscope, one can see up close details that people can normally not see in real life or even through a normal microscope. The teacher is then able to describe to the class what each body part of the insect is used for and what the most important parts of different insects are. A science class is able to have an open discussion about the zoomed in insect from bugscope because of the great detail that bugscope gives out through there images. I believe that bugscope is very beneficial and I enjoyed learning about bugscope and the different images we were able to see in class. In bugscope, teachers are able to asses students by quizzing the students what they learned and they can assess them by having a class discussion. If the students end up doing not so well in the discussion and the quiz, then the teacher will know she needs to improve her explanation of the bugscope and the images of the insects.
