APF and Agri-Hub Ethiopia beyond 2012 FOCUS ON FARMER ENTREPRENEURSHIP FOR FOOD SECURITY CO-CREATING INNOVATION, AGRI-BUSINESS DEALS AND POLICY CHANGES Agri-ProFocus Strategy 2013 – 2016

We vision an Ethiopia in which farmers earn a decent living and contribute to food security photo credits: Bioversity International

Our mission Our network promotes farmer entrepreneurship in Ethiopia, where members and partners: Support to entrepreneurial farmers (focus on business models, farmer organisation, market linkages) Foster farmer support systems (in finance, BDS, skills and inputs) Support to sustainable food production for domestic markets (agrofood industry, market information, link to livelihoods) Cross-cutting: Sustainability and inclusiveness.

1. Business and partnership brokering Creating a pre-competitive environment for dealmaking between chain actors Market intelligence on food, agriculture business: –Who-is-who –Quick scans, Q&A –Overview investment instruments and calls Brokering support –On demand matchmaking business, farmers, supporters –Engaging in joint resource mobilisation –Agri-Business Finance Fairs

2. Innovation communities Coalitions of members solve issues and put solutions into use. Support to working groups on themes like –Organised Farmers in Business –Rural BDS –Finance –Gender in Value Chains –or new themes.. Co-organise thematic events Engage in cross country learning

3. Platform for debate and learning The Agri-Hub network serves as an informed platform for debate, mutual learning and information exchange Linking to policy research, advocacy and debate on farmer entrepreneurship issues Online information sharing and learning Factsheets, policy briefs, video testimonials

4. Network development and coordination Agri-Hub as a dynamic network that promotes farmer entrepreneurship issues and creates synergies Grow a large and strong membership based on shared values and code of conduct Collaborate with private sector platforms and organisations to enable delivery of complementary services around food and business brokering Close cooperation with EKN around their Food Security Policy Framework and promoting Dutch - Ethiopian business linkages;

Agri-Hub Management and Governance Coordination (lead agency and Agri-ProFocus secretariat) Membership Agri-Hub member organisations Individual members –On invitation of another member and / or clear mutual interest shown –On delivery of profile (to be updated every 2 years) –Accepting the code of conduct Thematic groups –Group members contribute resources to activities and participate actively. The group leader pro-actively leads the group (planning, budgeting and execution of work plans) and joins the Agri-Hub steering committee. Steering Committee

Budget Target € / year for coordination and activities Members contribute financial and human resources Matching grant DGIS-DDE 50% Core support ICCO agreed, smaller contributions WUR, Terrafina, Cordaid ……. in the planning for Service contracts with member programmes. Financial management by coordination. Reporting to steering committee and Agri-ProFocus secretariat. Longer term strategy for financial sustainability (!)
