Women clothing: A 19 th century lady was expected to be elegant and beautiful. Their dresses had many details such as: petticoats, bows, lace, braids, fringes, and ribbons. They were known to be very uncomfortable clothing, but they looked very elegant, which gave the illusion of comfort. They had many heavy layers of underclothes, petticoats, metal hoops, very tight corsets made of whale bone and steel that were hidden by many layers and decorations. Collars, fans, gloves and hats and also an umbrella were very important. n

ladies would wear a wired cage or hoopskirt. To support their heavy layers of cloth. Before the invention of the crinoline, ladies would wear the cage made with plastic and wires for support. They would also be made of wood.

Corset A corset was used to provide structure in the upper body. To give the V shape structure to the dress, in order to look skinny and it made their gowns look beautiful Many women’s ribs were broken because the corset used be very tight and sometimes made of metal wires from the inside to give the V shape look. They used camisoles in order to cover the corset.

Skirts: Their skirts used to be the heaviest part of their clothing because they had many layers and decorations. there could be as many layers as they wanted for their skirt to have more decorations and layers which made the dress look elegant They also wore their petticoats under the skirt.

Shoes Boots could either have buttons or laces These boots were worn with their dresses and stockings.
