Full sleeve shirts that narrowed into later decades
Waistcoats worn over petticoats and corsets
Gowns closed in front or open to reveal a different color petticoat
Ruffles were essential to any outfit, usually as trim

Torsos of dresses became a cone shape, not with a tiny waist and with large hips
Skirts were not as wide
Bows and frilly lace accents were still widely used
‘Drawers’ were not worn
Outfits were dramatically coordinated so that every layer matched and came together

Elaborate embroidery and adornment
Fitted breeches close to the knee
Clothes (especially overclothes) were heavy and bulky
Coats had no collars early on… graduating to stiff ones
Ascots and frilly sleeves

9. LATE 1700’s Men’s Clothing Cuffs became bigger
Coats would reach to the knee
Clothing and fabrics became silkier and easier to move in
Men’s clothes slowly developed sleeker appearance
1795 waistcoats stopped at the waist, ruffled were diminished and clothing is considerably and noticeably lighter

Men’s Shoes
Pilgrim-esque pre-penny loafers, shiny black shoes with large buckles, became fashion
Gold or silver buckles were embedded with stones
Boots were tall and leather
Shoes became more comfortable and casual
Heels were rounded off instead of pointed like in the past

11. 1700’s Women’s Shoes Shoes were as ornate and complicated as outfits
Shoes would often be designed specifically for outfits
Pointed toes were very much in style throughout the century
Shoes were slightly heeled and often very delicate
Heel often had same curved shape…
