Bangalore - Transport n The major private transport for the city of Bangalore are two wheelers and cars. This mode of transport is the major share of the vehicular traffic n The public transport system of buses are operated by state owned corporations (Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation) n Omnibuses, Autorickshaws and Taxis also form a part of public transport system

Bangalore - Emissions n The Average pollution levels recorded in the city are Sulphur Dioxide (SO 2 ): 8 Microgram/Metre³ Suspended Particulate Matter (SPM): 362 Microgram/Metre³ Source: Karnataka Pollution Control Board n Vehicular traffic is the major contributor to emissions in the city n Result, Bangalore is emerging as one of the more polluted cities in India. Also, Respiratory diseases are on the rise.

Future Public transport ? n With the high growth of vehicular traffic (8%) and resulting pollution levels the state government has been trying to develop a strategy for mass transport system n The state government has set up a company to look out for various options for mass transport and is even collecting revenue through cess on petrol & diesel n This year the government of Karnataka and the Indian government have signed an MOU to setup a metro rail project on the lines of “Metro Rail” presently being executed in Delhi by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) n DMRC is been also given the additional charge to execute the Bangalore metro rail project

Financing Issues & CDM n Government of Karnataka contribution - 74 Crores n A special purpose vehicle (SPV) will be set up to raise funds (Finance corporations, Foreign Banks) n Financing is a Major issue for implementation of the metro rail project n Past experience in many countries shows the system is heavily subsidised by the government n Under this circumstances, CDM option can be looked upon for assisting the financing, since the project has vast savings in emissions & fuel consumption
