Existing Conditions continued: 85+ population is the fastest growing segment of the region’s population increasing by 55% between 1990 and % of older adults are homeowners. 10% of older adults in the region live below poverty. Between 1990 and 2000, the 65 and older population in the region increased by 30%.

Three of the region’s 10 counties have among the 20 fastest growing older adult populations in the nation.
