Heroic Examples

Atalanta (Greek) fastest woman alive. She was also very strong a beautiful. She vowed to remain a virgin until she died. If some one came to marry her, she would ask them to race. If they won, she would marry them but if they lost, she would kill them. One man asked the goddess of love for help in beating Atalanta. Aphrodite agreed and gave him magic apples to throw on the ground when Atalanta was closing in. The man didn’t thank the goddess of love properly after the match however so she turned him and Atalanta in the lion and lioness.

Robin Hood (English) A great archer who lived in the woods with a band of “merry men”. These outlaws would steal from the rich Prince John, the Sheriff of Nottingham, and Sir Guy of Gisbourne and give to the poor people. The Sheriff was in charge of capturing Robin Hood, but he failed every time.

Strom (Ororo Munroe) (American) A member of the X-Men (Marvel Comics); she has the power to manipulate the weather over a small area. Before she joined the X-MEN she had stolen a car and was running form the police. When they found her, she used her mutant ability to create a thunderstorm. Favorite Food – Rice Cakes 1/2 cup short-grain rice 1 cup water 2 teaspoons rice wine vinegar 1 ounce thinly sliced scallion 1 tablespoon chopped pickled ginger Oil In a small bamboo steamer, cook the rice with the water. When rice is cooked add remaining ingredients. Let cool slightly and shape into balls. In a hot skillet, drizzle oil on the pan and brown rice cakes on both sides until golden brown. Place on sheet pan and keep in a hot oven. Serve.
