Presentation transcript:

Make sure all the water is labeled correctly. On your next quiz, you must know: 4 continents 4 oceans Mediterranean, Black, Caspian, Arabian Sea 3 deserts 3 mountains You must also be able to divide the 30 events from the 30 Events Timeline assignment into the three time periods: Ancient, Not-so Ancient, and Modern

16 Rivers: 4 in Africa, 5 in Europe, 2 in India, 3 in east Asia (China), 2 in the Middle East. Rhine Nile Niger Congo Zambezi Volga Ural Indus Ganges Yangtze Yellow Red Tigris Euphrates Dneiper Danube Arctic Ocean Indian Ocean PACIFICPACIFIC ATLANTICATLANTIC Africa Asia Australia Europe Arabian Sea Mediterranean Sea Black Sea Caspian Sea

Niger Nile Congo Zambezi African Rivers

Indus Ganges Indian Rivers

Tigris Euphrates Mesopotamian Rivers a.k.a. the Middle East a.k.a. Southwest Asia

Rhine Danube Dneiper Volga Ural European Rivers

Yangtze Yellow Red Rivers in China

This is two different rivers. The Tigris on top and the Euphrates on the bottom. They merge and flow into the Persian Gulf.

First step: Color all the water blue. This makes the land regions “pop out.” Label all oceans, seas and rivers in black ink, spell correctly, and do it neatly so you can read it.

Physical “landforms” = physical features of the earth’s surface Mountains Canyons/trenches Lakes, rivers, seas Deserts Rainforests Taiga (evergreen forests) Plains/Plateaus Peninsulas/Islands

This is a “physical map” of the world. Landforms have presented obstacles to humans in the past. Mountains, oceans, and deserts PREVENTED human interaction for thousands of years. Groups developed different languages, religions, and customs because of their long separation from each other. Today, these landforms hardly cause any travel trouble. Or, do they? Will rising sea levels matter?

Please finish your “Geography Matters Map” today. I will review all the land forms first, and then you may work independently on it. You need yellow, brown, green, and blue pencils. If we have extra time we will work on timeline notes.

Himalaya Mountains Ural Mountains Caucasus Mts.

Arabian Sahara Gobi Desert Siberian Taiga Indo China Rainforest Ural Mountains Congo Rainforest

You should know the continents/regions.

Approximately 200 countries in the world – 53 of them are on the continent of Africa. Do you know your hemispheres? Make sure you do.

What is the major difference between the North Pole and the South Pole?

Yellow River Yangtze River Xi Jiang (Red River or Pearl River)

16 Rivers: 4 in Africa, 5 in Europe, 2 in India, 3 in east Asia (China), 2 in the Middle East

Black Sea Caspian Sea

Yellow River: Source: Himalaya Mountains Mouth: Yellow Sea

Where do all rivers originate? Where do all rivers end? What determines which direction the current of a river will flow?

So, why is your map titled the “Geography Matters” Map?

You must also label the Mediterranean Sea, the Black Sea, the Caspian Sea, and the Aral Sea. You must know them for the test, as well.

Why are these languages in this particular pattern?

There are only 5 races in the homo sapiens species. Caucasian (white), African black, Asian (yellow), Indian (red) and the second black (Australoid). All other names are a combination of the five races.

Get your own box!! And one of these. Make your life easy!
