Reflection In your own words, define globalization. How does globalization affect you? In your opinion, does globalization affect businesses in a positive or negative way? Explain.

Enrichment Many people attribute globalization to the downfall of the poor across the globe. With this in mind, have students read the following quote by Jimmy Carter: “Globalization, as defined by rich people like us, is a very nice thing…you are talking about the Internet, you are talking about cell phones, you are talking about computers. This doesn’t affect two-thirds of the people of the world.” Jimmy Carter (http://thinkexist.com/quotations/globalization/). Instruct students to research the affects of globalization on the poor and/or countries that have avoided globalization. Have students present their findings to the class.

Cross-Curricular Integration Technology: Present the following YouTube clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtmvksvSvtc&feature=related. Next, instruct students to conduct a similar survey to assess what students know about the concept of globalization. Have students create an iMovie, podcast, or PowerPoint, or have them use some other creative technological format to present their findings.
