The Tempest Key Scenes

In other words… Use lots of quotes. Refer to the theme of love a lot. Link to Romeo and Juliet as often as possible. Write about why people would like the play in the 1600’s and the 2000’s.

Your key focus: Highlight anything that shows the theme of love.

Act 1 Scene 2 In this scene… Ferdinand is following the sound of Ariel’s music. He meets Miranda – they fall in love at first sight. Prospero wants to test Ferdinand’s commitment and makes him his slave. He tells Ferdinand he is enslaving him because he might be a spy.

Find the line that shows: 1.Ferdinand is confused about where the music is coming from. 2.Miranda thinks Ferdinand is a spirit. 3.Prospero tells Miranda he is a living person. 4.Miranda says Ferdinand looks divine 5.Miranda says this is only the third man she has ever seen. 6.Ferdinand says he’ll make her Queen if she is available. 7.Prospero says Ferdinand is a spy. 8.Prospero puts a spell on Ferdinand (stage dir.) 9.Miranda begs Prospero to release him. 10.Ferdinand says he would go to prison to spend time with Miranda.

Act 4 Scene 1 In this scene… As the play nears its end, Prospero is happy that Ferdinand has proved himself. He gives permission for Ferdinand and Miranda to marry. Prospero turns his attention to punishing Caliban.
