1 Safety Rules & Regulations (Part A) Introduction to Technology

2 1. No running, pushing or horse playing allowed in the classroom or lab. You could accidentally injure yourself or someone else.

3 2. When using an Xacto knife or any type of tool used for cutting, always cut away from your body and hands. The blade could slip and cut you.

4 3. Never leave tools near the edge of a table or desk. They could roll off and fall on your foot.

5 4. Walk with scissors or sharp tools with the tip pointing towards the floor.

6 5. Long hair should be tied back and not be allowed to fall freely about the shoulders. Long hair can get caught in rotating wheels and rods.

7 6. Never toss or play with tools like a toy. Misuse could result in injury.

8 7. When handing someone else a tool, always hand it to them handle first. The point of a tool could accidentally poke someone’s hand or arm.

9 8. Always obtain permission from the instructor first before using any equipment.

10 9. Rings, watches and jewelry should be removed before attempting to use or repair any equipment, especially electronic equipment. These items can get caught on the equipment and cause injury. Arcing of electricity can also occur, which results in electrocution.

Loose clothing and neck ties should be rolled up or tucked in before operating any type of machinery because the risk of getting caught can occur.

Keep work area free from excessive clutter and tools.

Clean up spills as they can become slip hazards.

Keep book bags, purses and other items away from traffic areas as they can become trip hazards.

Keep small, loose items off of the floor as they too can be trip hazards.

Do not distract other students while they are working with machinery.

Lift with your legs and not your back.

Always use eye protection when working with tools.

Always use hearing protection to prevent hearing loss when working around loud and noisy equipment or tools.

Always protect your respiratory system by wearing a dust mask or respirator when working in dust or fumes.
