Metadata IN Smart Grid Group Name: REQ Other suggested titles: “Benefits of oneM2M Standardization” Group Name: REQ Source: Linyi Tian, Huawei, tianlinyi@huawei.com Meeting Date: Feb 18, Agenda Item:

Outline Metadata in electricity industry: Provide the overview of metadata & semantics in IEC 61970 for Smart Grid It contains examples which may be related to M2M area Potential oneM2M Requirements

IEC 61970 in a Nutshell IEC 61970 The integration of applications developed by different suppliers in the control center environment The exchange of information to systems external to the control center environment (transmission, distribution and generation systems); The CIM (Common Information Model) : Maintained as a UML model. Defines a common vocabulary and basic ontology for the electric power industry. Central package 'wires model' describes the components used to transport electricity. Derive 'design artifacts' (e.g. XML Schema, RDF Schema) as needed for the integration of related application software. IEC 61970-301 defines the data model packages IEC 61970-501 and 61970-452 define an XML format for network model exchanges using RDF. IEC 61968 series of standards extend the CIM to meet the needs of electrical distribution, where related applications include distribution management system, outage management system, planning, metering, work management, geographic information system, asset management, customer information systems and enterprise resource planning.

CIM Model and Data Access 61970 404: High Speed Data Access (HSDA) High Level Data Model Data Objects that can be accessed Types can be IEC 61970-301 Measurement, Breaker, Substation, etc. Properties can be IEC 61970-301 Measurement.normalValue=50 Breaker.ampRating=60, etc. Pathname: unique name in the system. Layout of the pathname is implementation specific. Xpath is recommended to be used. It is possible to use RESTful approach to access these data in the future with mapping to XPath.

Example: Measurement Class Power System Resource (PSR) may have zero to many measurements: Semantics defined by 61970-301

Graphics Object Data Model 61970 453: Graphics exchange CIM based graphics exchange has been designed with the use of SVG in mind. Object SVG CgoDiagram SVG element CgoGraphicalObject SVG basic shape or SVG symbol CgoGroup SVG group element CgoLayer Metadata of SVG element CgoDiagramView CgoMetaData SVG metadata element The graphics data may be exchanged between substation automation system, control center, planning system and GIS system.

Graphics Object Data Model The graphics medata will be associated with the domain data defined in 61970-301. References to the presentation logic will be transferred. The local presentation logic should be negotiated between the sending and receiving system in advance.

Proposals Recommendation: Study the metadata from the electricity industry to see whether they are relevant to M2M work area. Potential requirements: The M2M system shall provide a common abstraction mechanism for various data models. The M2M system shall provide a mechanism to map the abstraction data model to physical data models. The M2M system shall provide a mechanism to allow graphical data exchange.
