What is a Maquiladora? Maquiladoras originated as part of the Mexican government’s 1965 Border Industrialization Program. Typically, maquiladoras are foreign-owned, controlled or subcontracted manufacturing plants that process or assemble imported components for export. Maquiladora inputs are generally imported duty-free. Maquiladoras account for 45% of Mexico’s exports. http://www.dallasfed.org

Agricultural Business Reynosa is the 2nd largest Port of exit for Mexican produce. Progreso International Bridge is the biggest port for US Grains exports. Mcallen is the most important crossing for US Meat Products. Reynosa port of entry is one of the biggest for US perishable products southbound.

Reynosa is the 2nd largest port of export for cotton bales into México.

Progreso International Bridge The Progreso/Nuevo Progreso International Bridge has been in operation at this location since 1952 In 1981 Cargill, Inc. constructed an elevator here for the exportation of corn and grain to Mexico. This exportation of agriculture products continued to grow to the point that four elevators are now exporting agriculture products to Mexico (corn, grain sorghum, cotton seed, beans, and popcorn).
