Presentation transcript:

What is the skeletal system, you might ask? The skeletal system is basically a human’s skeleton. The human skeleton consists of 206 bones as well as the tendons, ligaments, and cartilage that connects them. This may commonly be described as a network. The systems performance gives the body support, blood cell production, shape, movement, and protection. Vital functions that help us get through our everyday lives.

Bone- rigid organs that constitute part of the endoskeleton of vertebrates Ligaments- a fibrous tissue that connects bones Tendons- a tough band of tissue that connects muscle to bone

One of the major functions of the skeletal system is that the system provides the body with protection and safety. The skeleton protects the fragile organs and tissues inside the body such as: the heart, eyes, brain, lungs and spinal cord. For an example, the cranium (skull) provides protection for the brain.

Another major function of the skeletal system is that it provides the body with shape as well as movement. The bones of the body provide the structure for muscles to attach so that our bodies are able to move. Tendons are tough inelastic bands that hold the muscle to the bone.

Last, but not least, the last major function of the skeletal system is that it gives the body its shape and support. Everyone’s structure is typically the same. Each person’s body begins with the head and ends at the feet from top to bottom.

Like all body systems, the skeletal system cooperates with the other systems in your body. The skeletal system works with the muscular system by having muscles attach to the skeleton. Another example would be how the skeletal system works with the circulatory by producing the imperative blood cells

Your bones are tough. But, even tough things could break or snap. When a bone breaks it is called a fracture.. There are a number of different types a fractures such as: a complete fracture, greenstick, single, comminuted, bowing, and open. As expected, a person can be in extreme agony. A bone heals by itself. As soon as the bone is broken, the body is already working on healing the bone.

 Instead of seeing the pelvis as being one bone, it is actually made up of six bones.  Cartilage rots faster than bone after death  The smallest bone in the human body is the stirrup  The longest bone in the body is the femur  Our bones are 6 times stronger than steel if each are the same size
