Presentation transcript:

CE 3372 Water Systems Design EPA-NET Pumps, Valves, Tanks

Pumps Special Link in EPA-NET Add head to the system between nodes One directional Provide a pump performance curve If system needs more head than pump can provide, then EPANET shuts pump off If more flow is required, then curve is extrapolated – Pg 32, 33 of user manual

Valves Special link that limit pressure of flow at specific point in network Different types – Pressure reducing valve – Pressure sustaining valve – Flow control valve – Throttle control valve Pg 33,34 of user manual

Tanks Nodes with storage capacity; Similar to reservoir except can fill and drain – Lower/upper fill depths

Demand Patterns Can vary demand according to a time pattern Called “Extended Period Simulation” – Sequence of steady states

Examples Pump and Storage Tank Remove Storage Tank Replace Storage Tank, add flow control valve Pressure Reducing Valve Extended Period Simulation – Will do these in-class, bring your computer if possible.
