PURPOSE OF INSTRUCTIONAL CONVERSATIONS What do you think is the purpose(s) of instructional conversations? Improve Teaching Quality - Improve Instruction Increase Teacher Awareness of the Priorities of the FfT Use Data from Evaluation to Guide Conversation Promote Teacher Reflection that Results in Higher Quality Instruction

FACILITATING PROFESSIONAL CONVERSATIONS Individually, read  “Enhancing Professional Practice A Framework for Teaching” (pages 5 –6 “A Common Language for Professional Conversation”) from, Danielson, C. 2 nd Edition (2007). What insight do the two text provide relative to facilitating instructional conversations with teachers?

DATA USE What data is used for Conversation and how is it collected? How do you use the data for Conversations? How is evidence free of inference? Why do you think it needs to be free of inference?

ROLE PLAY Watch an Effective Post Conference in Action What was the principals behavior/strategy? What was the teacher behavior?

THE FFT ACTION TOOL INDIVIDUALLY Refer to the FfT Action Tool  Review Pages of the Action Tool Discuss with your colleagues  How you can use these questions to help construct your role play questions and answers. These questions will help teachers think about the priorities of the FfT (Cognitive Engagement & Constructivist Learning) and improve their practice? Be Prepared to Share your Thoughts

CONSTRUCTING AN INSTRUCTIONAL CONVERSATIONS Review the lesson plan and the completed DOP. Each group develop questions to ask the teacher during the pre and post Conference and the answers to improve professional practice (Use the Action Tool Pg to assist in developing the questions). Two members of the group act out the questions in role play. During the role play, other group members will watch and provide feedback to the group based on the prior role play. Be prepared to share your feedback
