Skills For All Alamedans The Woodstock ROP New Media Center will serve young adults as well as older community members by providing real skills for a range of East Bay jobs. The center will operate afternoons and evenings to accommodate both school and work schedules of all individuals interested in attaining these work skills. Thus, the new ROP center will help us realize our common goal of re-building Alameda by teaching relevant skills to a generation of East Bay workers. The center will offer courses in TV Media Production as well as Game Design and Animation to match emerging East Bay industry trends and workforce need forecasts. Already we have met to discuss and brainstorm the vision and mission of the ROP New Media Center with officials from AP&T, the City of Alameda and other educators. For the past several years now, AUSD stakeholders in the Oakland-Alameda Regional Occupational Programs (ROP) have worked hard at expanding and retooling programs offered our students to prepare them for a world of work. The Woodstock ROP New Media Center will now replicate successful programs that are currently offered only at Alameda High School, thus providing community members of Alamedas West End with these same opportunities. Finally, these programs will prepare individuals with important 21 st century work skills that can be used for immediate employability and also enrollment in post-secondary opportunities. Already our courses in TV Media Production are UC a-g approved, and we are seeking UC approval for the other courses. In this manner, we are affording these individuals with choices and options for future advancement.
