Abridge – verb shorten Larry’s school day was abridged because he had an early dismissal for a dentist appointment. She read an abridged version of Pride and Prejudice; it was 200 pages shorter than the original book.

Antidote – noun something that relieves or prevents; a remedy that counteracts the effects of poison I have an antidote for stress – a month-long tropical vacation. After the girl was rushed to the hospital, the doctor administered the antidote to the poison swiftly and the patient survived.
