Pretest: Special Education Terms Prepare a one sentence definition for each term. For example: “Special Education Instruction is that which may be provided by a variety of staff.

Pretest: Special Education Terms Individualized Education Plan (IEP) IEP Committee I.D.E.A. Multidisciplinary Team Special Education Instruction

Pretest: Special Education Terms Screening Evaluation/Assessment I.Q. Test Achievement Testing Annual Review Bonus: Due Process

How well are your “terms”? Make sure your name is on your paper. Grade yourself “fairly & accurately” 5 points if exactly as I provide 4 points if “reasonably close” 3 points if response is “appropriate” 2 points if response is “least” possible 1 point for any written response

Pretest: Answers Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is a plan that tells “what and how” a child should be taught. Includes long range goals, short term objectives, and lists the services to be provided.

Pretest: Answers IEP Committee is a team of people, including the parents, who decide what services a child needs and makes other decisions about the child’s educational program.

Pretest: Answers I.D.E.A. is the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, a federal law, providing for the free and appropriate public education for students with disabilities.

Pretest: Answers Multidisciplinary Team is a group of educators appointed to evaluate a child’s needs and/or make recommendations regarding services.

Pretest: Answers Special Education Instruction is instruction provided to disabled students which is designed to meet the unique educational needs of each child. This is the instruction not the instructor. The instruction may be provided by a variety of staff members.

Pretest: Answers Screening is using existing information to decide what additional information or testing should be done to determine the student’s needs.

Pretest: Answers Evaluation/Assessment is a process by a group of educators appointed by the IEP Committee to evaluate a child’s needs and/or make recommendations regarding services.

Pretest: Answers I.Q. Test is intelligence testing to determine the child’s potential for learning.

Pretest: Answers Achievement Testing is measuring what a child has already learned.

Pretest: Answers Annual Review is a review by the IEP Committee of a student’s progress during the past school year.

Pretest: Answers BONUS; Due Process is the legal process followed when a student’s right to a free and appropriate public education (FAPE) has been perceived to be violated.

Pretest: Answers The maximum score possible is 55! Your actual score depends on your interpretation of: “exactly as I provide” “fair and accurate” “reasonably close” “appropriate” “least possible”

Pretest: Answers Your score is an overly simplified measurement of what you already know, your presenting abilities, AND what you need to learn - that is, your short term objectives (actually only some of them) as you begin Education 203, Foundations of Special Education.
