Welcome to our Reading and Writing Workshop – How to help at home!

Letters and Sounds Jolly Phonics Nursery – Tuning into English Reception – Learning the Alphabet Blending (Building sounds into words) Segmenting (breaking words into sounds) Year 1 – Learning all 44 letter sounds Year 2 – Spelling patterns

Nursery Children are learning to explore and experiment with sounds and words (Games and Stories) distinguish between different sounds in the environment and phonemes (Blindfold Game) show awareness of rhyme and alliteration (Nursery Rhymes) Develop a love of books

Supporting children in Nursery "Reading and writing float on a sea of talk." Make time to speak and listen, turn off the TV, Mobile Phone Listen to English – Nursery rhymes, songs, stories, television and films Play with sounds – animal noises, toys Encourage children to listen and distinguish between environmental sounds
