Seeking Perfection Such a lofty goal, is admirable, but some say it is impossible; thus there is no need to seek it.

Introduction Most people have the concept that perfection is reserved for God and Jesus. It simply is not anything any human can accomplish (except for Jesus). The Bible usage of the term indicates much more that we will show to be possible. These definitions are provided by W.E. Vine in his dictionary of New Testament words.

As an adjective Signifies having reached its end. Finished Complete It is used of person (a) physically mature (b) mentally mature i.e. full-grown. Also used of a person who demonstrates sound judgment and wisdom despite their age.

As a verb Bring to an end by completing Accomplishing the desired result. What Christ accomplished through His life by bringing salvation to all. Christians can be perfected by accomplishing what God desires of them, and they do what is necessary to be saved.

As a verb Completing an action as was designed. God’s love is to be perfected, and is perfected by those who love. God’s love perfected by those who love Him. Taking on the very character of God through obedience and trying to be like Christ in all things.

As a verb To bring through to the end. To render fit for duty Trained and ready for service. Some cases, to restore one back to maturity. All points in the direction of progress towards good things

As a noun Making fit Implies a process of leading to consummation Fulfilment, completion, Bringing the process to the desired end.

Perfection Not one definition or description even implies the concept of without flaw, or imperfection, or failure, or sinful on the part of man. Our sacrifice needs to be without spot or blemish. That means we offer the best we have. Yes we can become perfect in God’s sight. As long as we grow and develop as a Christian should.

Things That Are Perfect Deuteronomy 32:4 “He the Rock, His work is perfect. 2 Samuel 22:31 “As for God, His way is perfect” Psalm 19:8 “The law of the Lord is perfect” Matthew 5:48 “Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect”. A quotation from Leviticus 19:2 ye shall be holy

Perfect Genesis 6:9 (kjv) “Noah was perfect” (nasb) Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his time, Noah walked with God”. Genesis 17:1 “The Lord appeared to Abram and said “I am God almighty; Walk before Me and be blameless (perfect kjv)”. Leviticus 22:21 “in the offering, the sacrifice must be perfect, it shall have no defect in it”

Perfect Job 1:1 “that man was blameless, upright (perfect kjv) v.8 “have you considered Job, for no one like him, blameless and upright (perfect kjv). Also in 2:3 Acts 3:16 the name of Jesus, and faith which comes through Him has given him perfect health as you see here”. Romans 12:2 “…prove what is the will of God, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”

Perfect 1 Corinthians 2:6 “those who are perfect (of mature age). 1 Corinthians 13:10 “when that which is perfect is come, the partial will be done away”. 2 Corinthians 12:9 “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness”.

Perfect 2 Corinthians 7:1 “…perfecting holiness in the fear of GOD”. Ephesians 4:12 “for the perfecting of the saints…” Hebrews 6:1 “let us press on to maturity (perfection kjv). Colossians 3:14 “put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity”

Conclusion Perfection has many meanings. When commanding man to be perfect, it does not mean sinless. It means blameless, upright, and righteous. If we are to be like Christ in our character and behavior, then we need to be as He was and is. Are you dedicated to being perfect in the sight of God? Perfection should be our goal.
