Welcome MATH Spring 2013 Dr. Larry Bowen

Future Courses Math 110 is a Terminal Course It is absolutely imperative that you understand that Math 110 is NOT a prerequisite for any other math class! If you need to take Math 112 (or might change to a major that requires Math 112), but did not place into that course, you should drop Math 110 now and take Math 100 instead, then Math 112, etc.

Calculator Your own scientific calculator For use in class, on assignments, and on tests For tests, ONLY the Casio fx-260 School or the calculator available on the computer will be allowed. Using a different hand-held calculator on a test will be treated as academic misconduct.

Clickers You will be required to have a Turning Technologies Response Unit (or “clicker”) in class with you every day for Recording attendance Participation in class Clickers may be purchased at a campus book store. If you already have a clicker for another class, that will work for this class too. Register your clicker in our Blackboard learn course right away. NOTE: I MAY NOT DO THIS SO DON’T BUY A CLICKER JUST FOR THIS CLASS IF YOU DON’T ALREADY HAVE ONE.

Clicker – front and back Use the Device ID when you register your clicker in Blackboard Learn

Access Codes Every student must have a MyLabsPlus access code. Comes packaged with the textbook or may be purchased separately The code gives you access to an online textbook, video lectures, examples of assignments and many more useful tools to help you be successful in this course. Students repeating Math 110 must go to the MTLC to get a new code. You do NOT need to purchase a new access code. Temporary code available in software for 21 days.

Course Grades Grades will be assigned in this course. Possible grades in this course are A, B, C (+/-) or NC. A grade of NC means you receive no credit for this course. You must take the course again, but an NC does not affect your GPA. The last day to withdraw from the course is Wednesday, 3/20. No withdrawals will be given after this date.

Homework Graded homework assignments for each section (17 total) Deadline shown in syllabus and software May save, close, and return to complete. Homework exercises may be worked and reworked as many times as needed. Click on “Similar Exercise” to rework an exercise. 3 lowest homework grades will automatically be dropped at end of semester. Average of remaining homework grades will count for 150 points.

Quizzes Graded quiz for each section (18 total); deadline. Do not click the “Submit” button until you have completed the entire quiz. 2 attempts on each quiz. Only higher score will be used in course grade calculation. Can review your quiz only immediately after submitting.
