Michigan State University College of Education Educational Technology CEP812 Applying Education Technology to Problems of Practice Professional Learning Plan Gary J Brumbelow

Vision Statement I will strive to ensure that technology is designed in my everyday lesson plans, instructional methods, and professional actions to help make my life and the life of my students easier, to enrich the learning process, and to continually keep my educational practices relevant to today’s world.

Philosophy of Technology in Education I believe that technology should be enveloped in all areas of curriculum and education to increase our effectiveness as teachers and to improve our students educational experience. However, the use of technology in the educational process can be a positive action or have a negative outcome. The inclusion of technology into our teaching practices must be done in a way that brings relevance to our students education. By combining tried and true “best practices” with new ideas and new technology you can continue to provide a strong and relevant learning environment for your students. The use of technology just for the sake of using it does nothing to enhance the learning process and simply acts as a catalyst to disengage the student from the true learning process. Yet, not incorporating technology into our instructional methods and daily educational lives leaves our students out of touch and unprepared for life. Therefore, it is our charge as teachers to create an educational atmosphere that balances educational “best-practices” with current technology.

Professional Learning Goals Short Term To complete my Masters of Arts in Educational Technology To utilize what I have learned in this program to enhance my instructional practices and my students educational experience To organize all of the tools that I have learned into one Livebinder so that I do not forget about any of them and that they are easily accessible To implement my Wicked Problem Project into my classroom I want to create a professional webpage that I can utilize for my classroom and my professional teaching career To remain committed to building daily lesson plans that encompass technology and engage my students Long Term To remain a lifelong learner of technology and become proficient in the latest technologies as they become available To actively engage in professional organizations and online communities that will introduce me to new tools, new ideas, and new ways to use my existing tools To become an educational technology leader in my instructional community To earn my doctorate degree in curriculum and instruction To become a leader nationally in the area of educational technology To become a college professor and teach teachers
