Namibia AM Seminar Spring – 11 to 13 April 2011 in Windhoek; meeting of Piarc D1 by Sophia Belete - Tekie RMS Manager

Area of 825,418 Km 2, u it is the world's thirty-fourth Largest country (after Venezuela). u It is comparable in size to Pakistan, and is about half the sizee of the US state of Alaska. After Mongolia, Namibia is the least densely populated country in the world (2.5 persons per km²). u Average annual rain fall is 500mm, u it has a population of about 2 million. u The GDP is estimated at US$ 6 billion (2008), with inflation rate of 5% per annum. u Namibia got its independence from South Africa in Introduction to Namibia

u Roads Authority will organize the Seminar in association with ASANRA. –Association of Southern African Road Authorities (ASANRA was established with the essential purpose of enhancing regional policy coordination and road transport systems integration in order to improve intra-regional road transport efficiency and lower transport costs). u Date Proposed: 11 to 13 April 2011 in Windhoek the Capital City; meeting of Piarc D1 committee in Swakopmund (Coast). u (Oct 2010 IRF Conference in Cape Town South Africa, Nov 2011 Chile Conference of AM) u In principle, Namibia is willing to host the Seminar, budget could be a constraint – but will be done in association with ASANRA. u Reserve the date – so that no other conference is held during this time (T2 in Tanzania) – hence support of ASANRA.

u Perhaps a technical tour at the Coast – if logistics allow. (Salt Road construction - ) u We would need assistance with the programme, logistics, invitation etc…. If agreed, announcement to go out asap from Piarc.

u Namibia has good road infrastruc ture and RMS will help that to be achieved!
