The Studio Museum in Harlem is the nexus for artists of African descent locally, nationally and internationally and for work that has been inspired and influenced by black culture. It is a site for the dynamic exchange of ideas about art and society.

The Studio Museum in Harlem What’s In A Name?

Reflection on Inquiry

What is Inquiry? A teaching strategy that uses open-ended questions about a subject that fosters discussion in which meaning is created.

Why Inquiry? Inquiry-based instruction requires participants to use creative and critical thinking to make meaning from works of art. Inquiry-based teaching strategies pose open-ended questions to challenge participants’ thinking about art and art-making, as opposed to teaching strategies based on lecturing or giving directions. Using inquiry allows for multiple perspectives on art and life. From Theory to Practice: Translations Inquiry-Based Art Instruction: A Framework for Developing Creative and Critical Thinking.
