Journal Anatomy & Physiology Ch 1

What does anatomy mean? What does physiology mean? The study of the structure and shape of the body and body parts and their relationship to one another. Physiology The study of how the body and its parts work or funtion.

What are the levels of structural organization in humans? Chemical Cellular Tissue Organ Organ System Organism (body)

What are the functions that humans must perform to maintain life? Maintain boundaries Movement Responsiveness Digestion Metabolism Excretion Reproduction Growth

What are the survival needs of the human body? Nutrients (Food) Oxygen Water Appropriate Temperature Normal Atmospheric Pressure

What is homeostasis? The body’s ability to maintain relatively stable internal conditions even though the outside world is continuously changing.

Name five body regions and explain where they are. Abdominal = stomach Carpal = wrist Thoracic = chest Lumbar = lower back Popliteal = knee pit

Name and describe the 3 major body planes. Sagittal Down the middle = left & right parts Frontal Down = front and back parts Transverse Across = top and bottom parts
