A Knight's Tale By: Hoon and Dave

The Plot William Thatcher, who is born a peasant, attempts to become a knight with the help of few friends. He also falls in love with Jocelyn, who is the daughter of the king. William encounters various hardships, but in the end, he becomes a legitimate knight thanks to Prince Edward for his bravery.

Canterbury Tales? How does A Knight’s Tale relate to Canterbury Tales? 1: Chaucer, the author of Canterbury Tales, is in the movie. 2: Peter, the Pardoner of Rouen is in the movie. 3: The social structure in the movie is similar to the one in Canterbury Tales where it was very rigid during the medieval times.

Theme Chivalric love – The movie emphasizes the various courtships and wooing that William had to do to get Jocelyn. (I.E. writing poems). Fate - William Thatcher fights against his fate in order to defy the fact that peasant can never become a knight. Class Struggle – The distinction between the upper class and the lower class is very definite in the movie. William acts to blur that line, making him a symbolic figure that if a person has enough determination to succeed, he or she can succeed no matter how impossible it seems.

Anachronisms Anachronism: When something is out of place. Role of Women: Back in the days, women didn’t have as much power as they did in the movie. The Music: They didn’t have “We Will Rock You” back then, shown in the beginning jousting scene. Clothing: Women didn’t wear such fancy clothes back then, and they certainly weren’t as revealing (more conservative). Dances: The dances in the movie seem to follow a modern beat (almost hip-hop-ish), which is out of context. Also, the symbol of double Nike was on the armor of William.
