IIt was one of the founding country’s of the EU. TThey fought in both world war 1 and 2 FFrench Revolution was in 1776 when peasants rebelled against King Louis XV1 and gained independence.

 France is one of the biggest countries in Northern Europe.  It shares borders with many countries including Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Spain,Italy, Switzerland.  Mont Blanc in the Alps is the highest mountain in France and in Europe.  The area is 210,000 square miles.  The population of France is 60,900,000, and over 2 million live in Paris.

 France is well known for cheese, bread and wine.  In France they eat food such as snails, frogs legs and the organ meats of animal’s.  Wine is grown through out France.  There are over 300 different types of cheese in France.  Over 5 tonnes of croissants are eaten in France each day.

 The French play sports such as rugby, tennis, soccer and cycling.  The French have many famous moments in the previous world cups when they beat the all blacks in 1999 and 2007 (They host the world cup in 2007)  The French have the Tour de France every year this is when cyclists cycle around the country and finish in Paris.  The French also have the tennis grand master tournament which tennis stars play at.

 The Louvre museum is in Paris in France it includes many famous pieces including the Mona Lisa which was painted by the world famous artist Leonardo De Vinci

 The Statue of Liberty was constructed in France in 1886 it was given as a gift from France to America.  Jeans were invented in France in a place called Nimes. The word denim comes from the word ‘de Nimes’  The Eiffel Tower was built in 1888 and was only to stand in Paris for 20 years, but it has been there for over 120.  France is the country that has won the most Nobel prizes for literature  Famous French inventions include the adding machine, the hot air balloon, the airship, the parachute, the submarine, the ambulance service, photography, animation and cinema.
