 Teens can get protective orders without notifying their parents against someone they are dating.  at highest risk  70% of sexual assault cases involve date rape.  1 in 5 high school aged girls have experienced dating violence.

 A small slap or hit  “I let him do it”  “I don’t want to loose him”  Keep away from friends  Controlling

 “Big Hero”  He liked me-he picked me  Flattery  Controlling  “Like the power”  Texting and calls-”Where are you, what are you doing”

 Put downs-ugly, fat, stupid  Disrespect in front of others  Can’t make a decision  Not going to change

 “I don’t even know you”  Break UP  Don’t waste time  Talk to someone  Don’t deal with it yourself

 Listened to seriously  Treated with Respect  Feel Safe  Keep Relationships with friends and family  Not Responsible for partners actions  Not abused emotionally, sexually, or physically  I can leave any relationship or fall out of love

 If a friend was in an abusive relationship, what would you do? What would you say to that friend?

 Healthy relationships bring happiness and health to our lives. There are basic ways to make relationships healthy, even though each one is different…..parents, siblings, friends, boyfriends/girlfriends, teachers, and classmates.

 Keep your expectations realistic  Talk with each other  Take the time: really be there  Genuinely listen  Listen with your ears and your heart  Ask questions  Share information  Be flexible  Take care of you  Be dependable  Don’t criticize  Don’t assume  Don’t hold grudges

 The most important thing is to BE YOURSELF! It’s much easier and much more fun to be you than to pretend to be something or someone else.  Healthy Relationships are made of REAL people, not IMAGES!

 Do not base your self esteem on your ability to get a date  Ask questions and get the facts before accepting a date  Don’t hesitate to call your parents if you need help

 Be ok with staying home when you don’t want to date  Stick with your commitments and don’t change your plans if someone/ something better comes along  Be honest and kind when you turn someone down for a date.
